Our bijoux winery nestled in a lush valley in South Hams is an enterprise of many parts. With so much on offer, it's hard for our visitors to choose a favourite activity. One of our key attractions is our outstanding Cellar Door Restaurant. Offering delicious lunches, and divine afternoon treats, the lynchpin behind our successful eatery is Chef Jonothan Mather...

Introducing Jonothan...

Having grown up in the area, Jonothan worked in management for some of the UK’s premium hospitality companies in London and Bristol. Luckily for us, he resettled in South Hams with his partner and terriers and became the backbone of our kitchen. Jonothan works tirelessly with his staff to deliver top-quality seasonal foods every Wednesday to Sunday and extends his hours to deliver stunning bespoke food for our special events.

With a focus on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, including those from our kitchen garden, Jonothan continually recreates classic dishes with a contemporary twist for our menu. And integrates our home-grown herbs and flowers into his Mediterranean-inspired Tapas-style dishes, which are enjoyable at any time of the day, especially when sampling our wines.

Going the extra mile...

A highly experienced chef, Jonothan is also the mastermind behind our three-course set lunch Menu du Dimanche which has been a big hit with our visitors. With dishes such as Grilled Bream fillets with mustard & tarragon sauce, asparagus & peas, and English Lamb Cutlets with herb sauce & Fennel salad, Jonothan's Sunday Lunch menu is likely to continue throughout the summer. Adept at adapting his fresh, clean seasonal recipes for vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free customers, Jonothan's dedication ensures that no one is left unfed...

An exceptional dining experience. As vegans, Calancombe went above & beyond, with extra special service from both the dining staff and chef. The food was beautifully prepared, with thought evident in each dish accompanied by lovely wine in a stunning, peaceful Countryside setting... Rather a belated review, sorry. Six of us came from Salcombe for lunch on 12 th May. Our second visit all be it with a bit of a gap. We sat outside on a beautiful day and had a fabulous time, exceptional food, delicious wine, friendly welcome and service. A real gem, we’ll be back soon.

Only downside, too full to manage pudding,
