English Wine Week 2024

Updated: Jul 25

Our favourite week of the year is here! English Wine Week is a week-long celebration of wine from all across the country, and although we don’t need an excuse, it’s an opportunity to try some of the best wines made on English soil.

The celebration runs from 15th - 23rd June, giving you plenty of time to visit the Calancombe Estate, tour our Vineyard and Winery and, of course, try our English wines.

Can’t get to us this week? No worries, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite Calancombe Estate English wines for you to try this English Wine week, available on our online shop

AWARD-WINNING Bacchus 2022

We're thrilled to have been awarded not one but TWO silver awards at the Independent English Wine Awards this year!

The IEWA deemed our Blanc de Noirs 2018 and Bacchus 2022 worthy of the silver award, noting they were “really smart, well made wine”, “clean and enjoyable” and “very balanced”.

The Calancombe Estate Bacchus is made from 100% Bacchus (often referred to as the Sauvignon Blanc of England!), with gentle aromas of grapefruit, gooseberry and a touch of tropical fruit.

Here’s what the IEWA judges thought of our English Bacchus 2022:

Well made, good example of the style, with nice crunchy texture and very approachable fruit. Appealing elderflower, lemon and nettle nose, with a textured palate - crunchy and interesting.  Sauvignon blanc meets Picpoul - clean and enjoyable. Really smart, well made wine."

AWARD-WINNING Blanc de Noirs 2018

Our Blanc de Noirs 2018 was also awarded silver at the Independent English Wine Awards, with the judges commenting:

Intense tangy juicy fruit, with a persistent focused finish. Attractive nose. Lovely red fruit. Great texture and weight. Subtle, but pretty aromas, apple, baked pear, and floral hints. Lovely balanced acidity, very classic in style with delicate mousse, ripeness, and some nice texture, creamy, and toasty. Well put together, very balanced wine."

This English sparkling wine is made in the traditional method, with a deep gold colour and long lasting fine bubbles.

On the nose, there’s hints of strawberries and citrus with touches of cream, baked apple and gentle spices. Perfect as an aperitif paired with canapés such as smoked salmon Belinis and gougères.

AWARD-WINNING Vintage Reserve

Speaking of award-winning English wines… our Vintage Reserve is made entirely from Madeleine Angevine grapes grown in our Devon vineyard, and presents a lightly aromatic wine.

The floral notes are complemented with hints of peach and apricot, pairing wonderfully with fish, white meat and spicy dishes.

Pinot Noir Rose

Experience the ultimate summer delight with our Pinot Noir Rosé, bursting with vibrant notes of strawberries and rhubarb. This exquisite wine is the perfect companion for sunny days.

We recommend drinking with salads, grilled chicken, lamb and roasted vegetables, or sharing with friends and family at a summertime barbecue.
